01/08/2008 - F-Used - Invisible Walls
Through Nektarios, the highly anticipated F-Used project which is a Jan Johnston and Kirsty Hawkshaw collaboration 'Invisible Walls' has finally been released. This happened on 25th July. It will go live on iTunes and the other digital stores on or before September 20th. You can view the picture cover and details of the mixed in the discography section. You can currently hear the track on his website at www.nektarios.com.
Also another one on the horizon, coming soon from ENHANCED RECORDS is the Jan Johnston meets Jussi track 'Merge'.
Jan Johnston and BT
Back together again, the dream team of BT and Jan Johnston will play a reunion gig in Miami at the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL ...... 10 year anniversary, on 28th March. And bonus news! Jan will be writing new material with Brian on this trip as well.
Update
Jan spent the start of the year travelling to Chile with Legion (who is responsible for some of the gallery pics), basically taking time out in January and February, relaxing, writing, poetry and being inspired by the beautiful country. In March Jan is recording vocals for two Paul Oakenfold tracks at Nektron studios, and sends a massive thankyou to Nektarios.
Gig News
A number of live dates in the coming months - Jan Johnston & DJ San will perform their collaboration "Perfect Dream" at Transmission 4 at the Sazka Arena, Prague (see calendar for address) on November 2nd 2007 along with Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Christopher Lawrence, Scot Project, Vision Impossible DJVJ show. On 8th September 2007 Jan Johnston will be appearing at the 9th annual Planetlove WKD Festival 2007, in association with BBC Radio One. This event will take place at Shane’s Castle, County Antrim. On 19th October Jan will be appearing at Rasputin in NYC and on 20th at the Black Bull club in Philadelphia, PA. Jan begins a mini tour of the USA in December starting December 29th at Fur Nightclub in Washington DC. In addition on September 1st - Jan Johnston meets JJoy, Venue-Amazonia Club Malta and on September 10th Rush (with JJoy) is released. Finally, confirmation that Jan is playing in Lebanon - December 15th at Tantra Nightclub Kasklik (facing Samaya Resort), Maritime Road, Beirut, Lebanon. See calendar or links for details.
Brief Update
Jan keeping busy as usual, stockpiling those tracks for release one day ... This year has been mostly studio work with this set to continue for the next couple of months. Jan is in the studio at present writing for her own project. In March she joined Paul Oakenfold to record vocals for upcoming Japanese animated feature "Vexille" which Paul is scoring. April sees Jan and Radi in the studio composing collaborations for Jan's solo project. From 15th to 30th May Jan is scheduled to be in New York with Kirsty Hawkshaw to shoot the video for F-Used, their first collaboration to be released through Nektarios - more on this one soon. Jan will also be going into Air and Angels studio in New York to write for another project she is involved in. One release date for the diary ... "Rush" with JJoy is planned for release on 10-09-2007 on the label Coldharbour Recordings (CLDHR050).
Brief Update
Still no definitive news with regards new releases but Jan still working hard primarily with Paul Oakenfold's label on her latest solo project and awaiting the anouncement of release dates. The collaboration with Kirsty Hawkshaw (called F-Used) also have songs in the pipeline which may be released by the artists themselves.
Brief
Quiet on the surface with regards new releases but Jan has been working hard behind the scenes as always. She's in the studio in October with Paul Oakenfold with releases assured for early 2007. Jan has been working with vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw on a project called F-Used - the fusion of their two voices ... Merge has been signed to Enchanted Records, so expect that release from Jan Johnston meets Jussi soon.
Single News
No release date as yet, but the next single from Jan Johnston will be a Paul Oakenfold collaboration. The single "Obsession" will be released as a double A side with "Halo". There will be radio and dance mixes of the track. Jan sends huge thanks to DJ Manolo and DJ Tommy Boy for their amazing mix of Halo for this release. Date TBC.
Update - March 2006
Jan is currently gigging and recording in Australia, having performed at Mardi Gras in Sydney on 4th March and gigs at Room680 in Melbourne and Earth in Adelaide with DJ Josh. She has some time in the studio with Andi Red (who you can also thank for many of the new pictures on the site).
Jan has been very busy recording of late, with the following collaborations already worked on and in the pipeline ... Update - November 2005
Jan has spent the past couple of months in the USA again, this time mostly spent in the studio collaborating with high profile and well known artists such as Paul Oakenfold, DJ Manolo and DJ Tommyboy, Interstate and DJ Shah. In September Jan was working on two songs for release early next year with Paul Oakenfold in New York, which will receive club and radio mixes. During her time in NYC, Jan was also asked to be on the panel for Billboard Magazine's Master Class, to answer questions on new artists coming through.
In October Jan gave a couple of new interviews to About.com and Innerphaseny.com (check out the links on the features page or calendar page). Armada signed worldwide rights to a new song "Beautiful Glimpse of Heaven", a collaboration with DJ Shah. Also in October more studio time with long time friends DJ Manolo and DJ Tommyboy, working on new solo project material. Jan then flew across to LA, where she collaborated with Mike Burns of Interstate, on new material for Jan's solo project as well as for their album. The Femme Fatales compilation featuring the Interstate remix of "Transparent" is out now released by toucancove.com. Cosmic Gate's rebranding of Skydive, "I Feel Wonderful" was released in the UK on 17th October. This is available now (e.g. hmv.co.uk). After more studio time with Paul Oakenfold, Jan flew back to Philadelphia to work some more with DJ Manolo and DJ Tommyboy on her solo project. She will be performing at Manny's club, 114 Market Street (www.one14.com) in Philly on November 17th. Jan has also lined up a prestigious spot at on of the UK's best loved clubs Gatecrasher. She'll be appearing 27th December.
Update - June 2005
Jan has spent the past couple of months in the USA doing various gigs, and is continuing out there having worked on a project with Paul Oakenfold 7th - 9th June - details to be available soon.
Jan is currently in Philly working again with good friend DJ Manolo on a track called "I Can't Move On" (see links section for Manolo's lounge in Philly - onefourteen). Jan is returning to LA at the end of June to work with Skyko and Interstate, writing and recording two separate projects.
Delerium available on The Club
Delerium, the track Jan wrote some time ago with her friends and collaborators DJ Manolo and Gene Williams, has been included on Paul Oakenfold's soundtrack to "The Club", the Vegas based reality TV show about a nightclub. This was released on 1st February 2005 in the USA. However Jan was distressed to find that the track has been credited to her and not as it should have been to DJ Manolo and Gene Williams as well. Although the credits for the compilation were nothing to do with Jan, she is still very upset that this track has not been properly credited and apologises to DJ Manolo and Gene.
News January 2005
Jan flies out to Germany to be in the studio with Cosmic Gate this month. She is collaborating with them on new versions of her massive club anthem Skydive, which will be scheduled for release soon after. Jan will then be moving on to Malta to visit her friend and now collaborator DJ JOY. They are scheduled to be in the studio February 5th, working on a new song together called "Captured".
Following the studio time, Jan will gig with DJ Joy on 9th Feb in Malta. After this she's back to L.A. for another gig at trance club 'Heaven' on 26th February. She will also be squeezing in more studio time on the trip to L.A., this time a collaboration with DJ Trenix called "Let The World Fall Apart Around Me". Release dates for all these singles to be posted when they are available.

Transparent will be released on Armada records on November 22nd, Captivating Sounds Holland released the track on 10th November. Features remixes by Filo and Peri on the b side. A second vinyl featuring remixes by Outback and Benz and Md will be out in January. Jan's currently writing for Tiesto and Armin van Buuren and has recently signed to Next Decade Publishers New York.
Paul Oakenfold has chosen to use "Delerium" for a new reality TV show he's doing called "The Club" in the USA.

Some release news
Jan's been busy mingling with the stars at a number of venues recently, Grammy parties, release parties, so where she finds the time for the following I'm not sure ... Jan has just signed three songs to Armin van Buuren's label "Armada". The first release will be "Transparent" (very soon), the second will be "Asteroid" and a third as yet untitled track will complete the trio. Jan has collaborated on these tracks with NY DJ and producer Serge Devant.

28th April 2004 - update - Jan is currently enjoying New York City with a few live appearances along the way, Crowbar, Nocturne and Avalon as well as venturing out to Providence, Rhode Island (Metropolis). In between this she'll be writing with some of her favourite friends and DJs there and in LA for future projects.

New Johnny Depp film "Secret Windows" will feature a track written by BT and Jan Johnston. "Communicate" from BT's recent "Emotional Technology" album not only appears in the film but is also playing with the trailer - catch it in theatres in January.

Skydive wins Anthem Award for 2nd year running
Skydive has won an anthem award for the 2nd year running. Congratulations again! Jan collected the award in Camden Palace in London on 20th June and performed the track as well as Nothing But You. Jan travels to Berlin on 1st July to continue recording with Paul Van Dyk for his album.
Beachbreeze on MTV, ...
The video for the track Beachbreeze which Jan wrote with Svenson and Gielen is on rotation on MTV, The Box and TMF. Jan shot the video in South Africa (at 7am after having flown in just the day before). Catch it if you can!

Tiesto In Concert
Tiesto is playing a sellout 25,000 gig in the Gelredome, Arnhem (The Netherlands) on Saturday 10th May. Jan will be appearing in her first live gig of this year to perform the new track she wrote for him - Venus. Jan has been busy writing with Paul Van Dyk who is in Mexico for a few days which has freed up a little space for Jan from her recording schedule just long enough to perform. Jan sends a huge THANKS to Paul for understanding an artist's need to perform.

Recent releases update
Check out the calendar section for planned release dates and other events. Recent releases featuring Jan Johnston have been plentiful in April and May. Calling Your Name with newly written verses was released on 14th April under Jan's own name on Perfecto records, two 12" featuring two mixes each, Beachbreeze by Svenson and Gielen which has been hovering in the charts in Amsterdam and the Paul Van Dyk track 'Nothing But You' were also available in April, and the DJ Cor Fjineman track Venus will now be released on 6th May in the UK.
February 2003 Update
  • Following a really tough year in the music industry, Jan is pleased to anounce she has signed a new artist deal with VANDIT Records, Paul Van Dyk's label.
  • Jan sings on the next PVD single "Nothing but You" - it will be released on the 22nd of April.
  • Jan also did the vocals for some track on Paul van Dyk`s new album that will be released around October this year. The tracks are: "Home", "Spellbound", "Should I Back". Thanks to Janos at Vandit for the information.
  • Jan played a gig at Gatecrasher in Sheffield (UK) on New Year's Eve. Jan had been sworn to secrecy about the gig, as the club wanted it to be a huge surprise when she came on at the midnight moment to see in the New Year and give the clubbers at Gatecrasher a treat (Skydive being one of the club's favourite anthems). The crowd loved it, it was a fantastic start to 2003 for Jan, and hopefully we should be able to obtain photos for the website.
  • Jan was in the studio in Berlin early this year collaborating with Paul Van Dyk for his new album, and as Jan says "great results".
  • Jan will be working with Paul on his new album, then going straight on to her new solo album "which i have a lot of material ready for with staying out in U.S.A. last year, working with D.J. Manolo and Gene Therapy ...."
  • "Beachbreeze", the track Jan wrote with Svenson & Gielen is now available on Svenson & Gielen's release "The Beauty of Silence". There is still the possibility of a video for this track but nothing has been arranged yet.
  • Hopefully we should soon see the release of "Venus" which Jan wrote with Tiesto (it can be found on mix CD Tiesto's Innercity Amsterdam RAI / 21.12.2002, DJ Cor Fijneman ft. Jan Johnston - Venus (DJ Tiësto mix)).
  • Also we are waiting for the Platipus release of the new version of Calling Your Name. There is no news from Platipus on when this will be released.
  • Jan is about to do a cover song for Paul Oakenfold and Perfecto with two producers Daniel Divioli and Larry Lush.
  • Jan has re-written "Calling Your Name". Jan has written new verses to complement the famous chorus that everyone now knows, and this should be released on Platipus some time round November this year.
New Release: 13th January 2003 'The Wave / Raging (Storm)' - Nebula Records
Cosmic Gate track "Raging (Storm)" featuring Jan Johnston from their "No More Sleep" album has been released in the UK on the Nebula record label (www.nebula.uk.com). It is released with The Wave (which does not feature Jan).
Review: German production outfit Cosmic Gate are already hard trance heroes whilst Nebula is one of the scene's biggest and most consistent labels, so it was always gonna be inevitable that a meeting between the two would be something special. Well, 'The Wave' (and all this release's bonus tracks) more than live up to expectations. 'The Wave' is an awesome instrumental trance track with a sampled vocal whilst 'Raging (Storm)' sees Cosmic Gate team up with the irrepressible Jan Johnston for a full vocal work out. On the remix tip: Svenson & Gielen provide a tough Dutch trance angle and new boys Flutlicht, from the Drizzly label, get funky under Johnston's awesome vocals.

September 2002 Update
  • Jan has just recorded "Venus", a song she wrote to a piece of Tiesto music. The track is due to be released soon.
  • "Raging (Storm)" is now available on Cosmic Gate's CD "No More Sleep". This track is also due for release some time in the near future and shooting of the video for this track will be in the next few weeks.
  • Another track on the cards for release is a song Jan has written for Johan Gielen and partner Sven. "Ocean" is another track that will be shooting a video in the next few weeks with a possible Miami location.
  • Jan goes over to the USA in the next few weeks (October-ish), to gig around the States. No set dates or locations as yet. When anything is confirmed the site will be updated with all dates.
  • Jan is currently working on Paul Van Dyk's music for his album which should be due around June next year.
  • There is a Timo Maas vs Jan Johnston white label floating around. Word from Perfecto (both Jan and Timo's label) is if you come across this, it's a bootleg and has nothing to do with Jan, Timo, or Perfecto.

May 2002 Update

Emerging Cancelled
Unfortunately Jan's long anticipated solo release "Emerging" has been postponed indefinitely. Jan said the album doesn't reflect where she is right now and would rather Perfecto held on for the right release. The silver lining is that this will free Jan up to take advantage of plenty of new and exciting opportunities in 2002.
Quick 2002 Update
  • Flesh wins No #1 track in the dance world for 2001!
  • Paul Oakenfold to score 2 new movies in which Jan has been invited to work on some new songs.
  • Further to the 3 BT tracks, Jan completed 7 songs ready for re mixers before leaving the U.S.A this week. Collaborations include D.J. Manolo in Boston (4 new tracks completed for a new Jan Johnston project), Serge for Ministry of Sound, Chris the Greek of American radio LAR, and a song written with D.J. Johny Vicious.
  • As well as a return to the Hammerstein Ballroom to perform on Thanksgiving, Jan also gigged at Tilt in Boston on December 8th last year while she was in the USA.
  • A return to London will see the recording and (finally!) release of Am I On Pause with Paul Oakenfold and Rob Davies.
  • Following the gig at the Heineken Festival in Amsterdam on 2nd February 2002, Jan and DJ Tiesto will be heading into the studio to write. Jan will then stay out in Europe, to write with a growing list of producers in Amsterdam and then Germany
Jan and BT working together again
Great news for all music lovers, and especially fans of BT and Jan Johnston. The pair have teamed up again to work on Brian's fourth full album. From the team that brought us "Remember", "Mercury and Solace", and many more including recently the long awaited official release of "Sunblind" on BT's R & R album, we will get to hear some new music. BT recently suffered a robbery of his studio gear, in which it was reported some of the fourth BT album was taken. 'As The Cracks Appear' - PERFECTO RECORDS (updated)
"As the Cracks Appear" from 'Emerging' was featured on Perfecto's summer sampler released Summer 2001. Two mixes from Highland and Humate featured on this 6 track vinyl release. Previously reported as the third single from Emerging, this appeared to be superseded by "Superstar" which was scheduled for October, however neither have materialised with no date yet scheduled for the album either.
Paul Oakenfold - Clapham Common and Ibiza
Jan is supporting Paul Oakenfold at Clapham common this Friday. It's a free event - she's on stage about 20.15. The latest Ibiza album from Paul Oakenfold contains two tracks by Jan. These are Silent Words (Solarstone vocal mix) and Superstar (Bill Hamel Dub). It's possible that Superstar will be the next single to be released from Emerging, which should follow shortly after. No firm decision has been made about this yet however.
Amazon Rainforest Benefit Concert
Jan is performing three tracks live at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for the Rainforest Alliance Show on June 28th. She will be performing alongside Paul Oakenfold, Lenny Kravitz (tbc), Wyclef (tbc), Boy George, Sarina Paris & Jana. This is a huge benefit concert in aid of the Amazon Rainforest - last year Sting performed. Jan will be performing three tracks live - Silent Words, Flesh and Unafraid.

Jan Johnston finally releases her debut single, 'Flesh', through Perfecto Records on April 9. A soaring whirlwind of euphoric synths, galloping b-lines and poignant pianos laced with Jan's seductive vocals, 'Flesh' is a paean to those carnal instincts that can take over two people after a relationship split.
Salford-born Jan's current success can be pinpointed to the day that US production whizz BT discovered an early record of hers languishing in a local second hand record shop's bargain bin. An instant convert, BT heard the track 'Calling Your Name' (later used on American Pie), and is reputed to have said: "I simply had to track this woman down and work with her".
And work with her he did. The classic track 'Remember' was their first collaboration (later used in Hackers 2.), its success opening the floodgates to a wealth of producers wishing to use Jan's vocals, including Chicane on 'Love Will Come', Victor Imbres' Submerge project 'Take Me By The Hand', and Freefall's number one club hit 'Skydive'. Jan and BT even did a sell-out 30-date tour of the States from San Francisco to Florida, where she first met Paul Oakenfold ­ who instantly offered her a deal in Summer 99.
Relocating to LA to record with US producer Jamie Myerson, they recorded Jan's debut album in the first six months of last year. A subtle marriage of her frank lyrics and Jamie's quietly understated production, the forthcoming album 'Emerging' is testament to the strength of traditional songwriting that can and still exists within a dance sensibility.

New Release: 27th August 2001 'Emerging' - PERFECTO RECORDS
Jan's debut album for Perfecto Records, "Emerging" is scheduled for August 27th 2001. It will be preceded by a 2nd single from the album scheduled for 18th June 2001.
